Privacy Policy

0w0 is built so you can meet people without handing over your identity. This page explains exactly what we hold, why, and how to get rid of it.

Last updated: August 26, 2026

This policy covers the 0w0 mobile app and this website (together, "0w0"). It explains what personal data we collect, what we do with it, and the control you have over it. Using 0w0 means you accept the practices described here.

The short version: we ask for as little as we can get away with. No real name, no phone number, no precise location, no contact list, no ad tracking.

What we collect

Account

  • Email address — used to sign in, verify your account, and reach you about your account
  • A hashed password, or an identifier from Sign in with Apple or Google if you use those instead
  • Your date of birth, to confirm you are 18 or over. We store the date, not a copy of any document.

We do not ask for your legal name. Your nickname is whatever you want it to be, and you can change it.

Profile

  • Nickname, pronouns, and the languages you speak
  • Your intent — friends, dating, or both
  • Interests, fandoms, and your answers to the vibe-check prompts
  • Your avatar: the layers, colours, and cosmetic items you picked
  • A general region and time zone (see Location)

Activity

  • Waves, passes, and matches
  • Messages and stickers you send in chat, plus who they were sent to and when
  • Your friends list and anyone you have blocked
  • Reports you file, and reports filed about you

Purchases

Cosmetic purchases are processed by the App Store or Google Play. We receive your purchase and entitlement status and a transaction identifier. We never see or store your card details — those stay with Apple or Google.

Notifications

If you turn notifications on, we store a device push token so we can tell you about new matches and messages. Turning notifications off in your device settings stops this.

Technical data

  • App version, device model, and operating system version, to diagnose bugs
  • Crash and error diagnostics
  • Basic rate-limiting and abuse-prevention counters, plus the IP address a request came from

We do not use advertising identifiers, third-party analytics SDKs that build a profile of you, or cross-site tracking of any kind.

How we use it

  • To create your account and confirm you are an adult
  • To suggest people to you. Matching weighs shared interests and fandoms, relationship intent, vibe-check answers, language, and approximate region — never how your avatar looks.
  • To deliver your messages and stickers
  • To apply the boundaries you set: who may wave at you, and who can see your profile
  • To act on blocks and reports, and to keep banned people off the platform
  • To grant cosmetic items you bought
  • To keep the service up, secure, and debuggable

We do not sell your data, we do not rent it to advertisers, and we do not use your messages to train AI models.

You cannot pay for better placement in anyone's discovery feed. Monetisation is cosmetic only.

Location

0w0 does not have a map and does not track where you are. We store a general region — roughly the granularity of a metro area, state, or country, depending on where you live — and a time zone. That is used to suggest people you could plausibly meet and to avoid matching you across incompatible waking hours.

If you grant the app location permission, it is used once to fill in that region, and the precise coordinates are discarded rather than stored. You can also just pick your region from a list and never grant the permission at all.

Who we share it with

We share data only where it is needed to run 0w0:

  • Hosting and database providers — to store and serve the data the app runs on
  • Apple and Google — if you use their sign-in, and to deliver push notifications (APNs, FCM)
  • App Store and Google Play — to process cosmetic purchases
  • Email delivery provider — to send verification and account emails
  • Error and crash reporting — to find and fix bugs
  • Law enforcement — only where we are legally required, or where we believe someone is at risk of serious harm

If 0w0 is ever acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the new owner. We will tell you before that happens and before any new policy applies to you.

What other people can see

Other 0w0 users can see:

  • Your nickname, pronouns, avatar, intent, interests, and vibe-check answers
  • Your general region — never a distance, a pin, or a map
  • Messages you send them

They cannot see:

  • Your email address, date of birth, or exact age unless you write it yourself
  • Your precise location
  • Who else you matched with, waved at, passed on, or blocked
  • Whether you reported them

Blocking is silent and mutual: a blocked person is not told, and neither of you appears in the other's discovery feed again.

How long we keep it

  • Account and profile: until you delete your account.
  • Messages: until you or the other person deletes them, or the account is deleted.
  • Deleted accounts: removed from the live service immediately and purged from backups within 30 days.
  • Safety records: if an account was banned, or was the subject of a report we upheld, we keep a minimal record — the account identifier and the reason — so the same person cannot immediately return. This survives account deletion.
  • Diagnostics and logs: 30 days.
  • Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

  • Access — request a copy of your data
  • Correct — fix anything wrong, most of it directly in the app
  • Delete — remove your account from Settings, no email required and no retention offer to click past
  • Export — get your profile, interests, and messages in a machine-readable file
  • Object — tell us to stop a particular use of your data

If you are in the UK, EU, or EEA, our lawful bases are: contract (running the service you signed up for), legitimate interests (safety, abuse prevention, and keeping the service working), consent (notifications and optional location), and legal obligation where the law requires it. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are in California, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any right above.

Email [email protected] to exercise any of these. We reply within 30 days.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit, data is encrypted at rest, and passwords are hashed with a slow, salted algorithm — we cannot read them. Access to production data is limited to the people who need it to operate the service.

No system is perfect. If we discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the relevant regulator within the timeframes the law requires.

Age

0w0 is strictly for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we terminate it and delete the data. If you believe a minor is using 0w0, report the account in the app or email [email protected].

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we will tell you in the app and by email before it takes effect, and update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use 0w0 after that means you accept the updated policy.
